Biltmore Who's Who Selects Tonia P. Crocker as this week's Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry for 2009.

Tonia P. Crocker, fire inspector for The City of Charlotte, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Tonia P. Crocker's commitment to excellence in the public service field.

Starting out her career by volunteering on the rescue squad in the mid 1990s, Crocker has been in the public service industry for the past eleven years. She later became an EMT, and in June of 2008 started working with the City of Gastonia Fire Department. Although she knew she wanted to change career paths, Crocker planned to remain working in the public and servicing the local community.

As fire inspector for commercial and public buildings, Crocker inspects for code violations and fire hazards by doing code compliance research. She also confirms that life safety systems have been tested and are functioning properly.

Ms. Crocker says that by taking extra classes in her field, along with mentoring amongst her peers, she's been able to achieve the level of expertise that she is very satisfied with. "I think the fact that I was actually a firefighter first has helped me as an inspector," she said. "When the firefighters learned that I have been where they are at now, it helps build that bond."

Tonia hopes to someday become a senior inspector or fire marshal, or possibly work for the federal government in the future. She is currently a level III fire inspector and a level III fire and life safety educator. She is also a strong supporter of the American Red Cross and enjoys music, exercising, basketball and football.
